Take several seats if you are trying to serve up #RevisionistHistory because Roland Martin is having none of it, and let me share with you a Colin Kaepernick analogy that might help you if you’re struggling with his decision.

This is the link to the video that I was inspired by referring to here: https://www.facebook.com/rolandsmartinfanpage/videos/10153990457247831/ with Roland Martin responding to the piece from Bill O’Reilly.

  1. Arab slavery over the Africans has been going on for over 1200 years! Atlantic kidnap/slavery has been approx 500 years. Not one piece of counselling yet…. smh. Great post! Thank you! 👏👏👏👏👍✌

    • Thank you Anne. I really believe that such measures are long overdue and could be very beneficial. I also suspect that many don’t even realise how much they have been affected and what they carry inside of them . . . . .

    • Some are saying that, as a collective, we are suffering with Post Traumatic Slave Disorders. I’m still a bit sceptical about this, but I can definitely see that many, including myself, are suffering from SOMETHING and it is in desperate need of repairing. Fast. Acknowledgement is necessary by society in general, and “tptb”, specifically. Once these things can be seen and felt in society maybe we can start to heal as you described in your analogy. I repeat, great post! 👍✌

    • Anne that is a great description of PTSD! I think there are many who don’t and can’t believe that such things could even be real. I wasn’t there but remember the ‘pain’ of watching Roots on TV during childhood when I realised that such stories and treatment were real. I physically flinched as I watched some of those scenes and I probably still would to this day. And thank you. 😊 👍🏽

  2. Thanks Marilyn
A very eloquent thought provoking piece on ways to help people feel they are truly listened to and acknowledged by others for what they or their ancestors have experienced. In my view an essential part of the process for healing to begin.

    • Thank you Paul Wigley. I have seen the change and transformation that can come from such approaches so I really also feel that it is essential.
I have also seen many laugh at the idea that such things and this approach could be real or relevant. All I can say is that the current measures don’t seem to be making permanent headway . . . . .

    • Marilyn
In my own experience and through coaching others I believe that it is often extremely difficult for someone to realize how such approaches might work unless they have either been through something similar or have witnessed this type of transformation first hand.

    • Oh yes, a few people were locked up and institutionalised for speaking of such thoughts. Even Ignaz, one of the first people to recognise the importance of surgeons washing their hands in between patients was thought by some to be a bit of a loon and over dramatising things . . . . .
