A school is supposed to be a place of higher learning — but, obviously, the administrators who attempted to put forth that RIDICULOUS ruling DESPERATELY need an education themselves!     • …… for those that don t know. Also it does not help with the stigma attached to black hair and issues around beauty etc

    • I love my hair now. I didn’t when I was growing up.

12. Linda Papciak I had no words, but obviously I still managed to find some!! 😆. Seriously though, it is a rather crazy state of affairs. I can only think that they have no idea about the challenges of black hair care. Let’s hope they have now been schooled.

    • Well, they say even an “old dog” can learn some “new tricks” and those oldies are NOT goodies and NEED to be schooled PRONTO! Thanks for doing your part in that effort.

16. I don’t understand why this even needs to be explained. No-one asks a white person why they are wearing their hair in a French or Dutch braid, a bun or …. Grrr. <3

    • We could co-author from our perspectives of being black girls on opposite sides of the pond. Different geography. Same story.

    • Oh Patricia Green that could be interesting. I am also interested in the slavery perspective of black hair because I am sure that the concept of ‘good hair’ had something to do with that era . . . . . I don’t know enough about it to be able to say anymore than that at the moment however it is one that I’ve wondered about.

    • During slavery, that “wooly” stuff intrigued the masters and mistresses more than skin color. Basically, it was to be frowned upon, thus, the derogatory descriptions that live to this day among some whites as well as some blacks.

31. Well what the heck are the chances of this?!!!! I was just looking up the timings of the Olympics Opening Ceremony and spotted that the film Good Hair is on tonight!

The update on the foolish story where they’re basically pretending ‘it was just about braids and twists.’ It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who traditionally wears their hair in braids and twists.
