Rather short broadcast…!
Ray Samuel Jr I think 8 minutes is plenty long enough thank you. I’ve got a movie to get back to.
I can see that now, carry on don’t let us disturb your movie…nice movie too. Cheers!
Hugs and love to you Marilyn xxx
Thank you for furnishing those who do not know π
Thoughtfully and gracefully expressed, Marilyn. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw the video clip you posted. Say WHAT??? A school is supposed to be a place of higher learning — but, obviously, the administrators who attempted to put forth that RIDICULOUS ruling DESPERATELY need an education themselves! Thank you for sharing your personal story and for being the voice of reason in response to such madness. xoxo <3
Hot Comb trauma!!!
I have dreads cause it’s easy and I’m lazy! everything else was too much like hard work
Have you eaten Marilyn ….
Tony Vedanta Wilmot I think that black hair is often somewhat of a mystery.
…… for those that don t know. Also it does not help with the stigma attached to black hair and issues around beauty etc
I love my hair now. I didn’t when I was growing up.
Linda Papciak I had no words, but obviously I still managed to find some!! π. Seriously though, it is a rather crazy state of affairs. I can only think that they have no idea about the challenges of black hair care. Let’s hope they have now been schooled.
Well, they say even an “old dog” can learn some “new tricks” and those oldies are NOT goodies and NEED to be schooled PRONTO! Thanks for doing your part in that effort.
Linda You are most welcome. Even if we have to educate them one at a time, I’m up for contributing to the equality cause. π¬π§ πΊπΈ π§π§
Evette Franklin It was a mixture of terror and elation. Terror before and during the process, and elation once it was all done and I could run my fingers through my hair.
Deirdra Barr I was a little peckish, not as hungry as some of the others though. ππππ
Thank you Manjit Kaur Jootle hugs to you too!! π€
I don’t understand why this even needs to be explained. No-one asks a white person why they are wearing their hair in a French or Dutch braid, a bun or …. Grrr. <3
Monique Rom I agree, such explanations should be completely unnecessary in this context in the year 2016 . . . .
My sister, don’t get me started on my hair story! Had to learn how to love what nobody else loved … not even my parents!
Patricia Green Me too! I love it now however it was a journey.
Ditto, Marilyn. xx
I’m sure there’s a book in there somewhere if one hasn’t already been written . . . . . . .
We could co-author from our perspectives of being black girls on opposite sides of the pond. Different geography. Same story.
Oh Patricia Green that could be interesting. I am also interested in the slavery perspective of black hair because I am sure that the concept of ‘good hair’ had something to do with that era . . . . . I don’t know enough about it to be able to say anymore than that at the moment however it is one that I’ve wondered about.
During slavery, that “wooly” stuff intrigued the masters and mistresses more than skin color. Basically, it was to be frowned upon, thus, the derogatory descriptions that live to this day among some whites as well as some blacks.
Yep!! Actually, this week alone, I have used that phrase : it’s 2016!!! NOT the Victorian days! WTF why do people still act like its 1885??! In SO many situations!!
Fiona Fay I know. Kind of unbelievable, particularly when you factor in how many routes to diversity and information there are today.
It’s gotta evolve! Maybe slowly but surely….

Deirdra I was like: “Say what???!!! Cool!” π³ π
I grade mine on a 1-10 scale but recently have had to re benchmark cause it’s getting crazy!

The update on the foolish story where they’re basically pretending ‘it was just about braids and twists.’ It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out who traditionally wears their hair in braids and twists. Despite the obvious ignorance of it all, their decision has now been reversed: http://m.wlky.com/news/meeting-to-be-held-discussing-changes-to-butler-high-school-dress-code/41057130
