Yesterday I Pondered Whether Nike Still Had the Warrior Energy … Today They Dropped this Colin Kaepernick Ad

WOW.

There really are no words to describe this one except Synchronicity and Divine Timing.

Holy freakin’ mother of #synchronicity What the????!!!!!!  Those were my first thoughts when I woke up this morning a looked at my social media feed.

Yesterday, Monday 3rd September, I was finalising my slides for the Archetypal Journey and Archetypal Branding Webinar I’m running tonight.
 
I looked at the Archetypes Grid which I first created in 2007 which makes reference to the Archetypal Brand of Nike and pondered whether I should change it because it’s been a while since they were in their reckless energy or defended or stood up for a big cause. I quote them in the Warrior and Hero energy.

The Nike Warrior Charge

 
This morning I woke up to the Nike ad they just dropped featuring Colin Kaepernick, plus pictures of burning trainers.
Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.
Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.
That answers my question.
 
Their slogan for the new campaign is:
 
‘Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.’
 

The Hero’s Journey

In terms of Hero energy think President John F Kennedy, Martin Luther King, Jr. and Nelson Mandela.  The Archetypal Journey is also known as the Hero’s Journey.  The Hero’s don’t tend to call themselves Hero’s.  Generally speaking they don’t have an easy time of it.  They often go through what is referred to as “the dark night of the soul” and in order to metaphorically return to the kingdom with their gifts they also go through the crucible of transformation.

And this isn’t bandwagon jumping. I created this slide for a Corporate Workshop 11 years ago and have been an Archetypal Profile and Archetypal Branding Consultant since 2005.
