The Barbados High Commission Annual Independence Day Panel Debate. This was brief panel intro with Tyrone Roach on the mic and me back again to Chair the Panel.

Tonight was to commemorate 50 years of independence.

Another really brilliant evening.

Thank you all.

  1. Fantastic evening, because of a great panel, great moderator, great organisation, great hospitality and great venue. Add to that a great audience and it all spells perfect, Bajan unity – the precious seed for an even better future oak of sturdy ‘togetherness’. I loved every moment and thank you, Marilyn, Tyrone and our High Commissioner, H.E. the Reverend Guy Hewitt for a wonderful evening. For me, it was made more magical because as a child I saw the whole process of the High Commission’s formation, from it’s inception in Milbank in 1956, when my father worked with Arthur Pickwood, a civil servant, to set up what became the Barbados Liaison Service. This morphed seamlessly through various incarnations to become the Barbados High Commission a decade later. Dad acted as High Commissioner in the eighties, in Belgravia but felt it better to stop paying hefty rents and invest in real estate and he chose the current venue because of its accessibility and future, projected value.

  2. Thank you Mercedes Leal for your wonderful feedback and as ever beautiful words, and my goodness, what a history. Wow. I had no idea until you mentioned it yesterday just how involved your dad was with the inception of the organisation and building that the High Commission of Barbados, London now calls home. I love it.

And it was indeed another incredible evening with the panel and topic of discussion expertly selected by Mr Tyrone Roach.

I really was smiling on the way home last night despite the cancellation of all the trains as I thought about the gems that were shared from the panel, and the lovely conversations that they invoked over some good Bajan food after the debate.

    Thank you. M <3
