LET US ALL LIVE WHILE WE ARE ALIVE & HAVE THE TIME OF OUR LIVES!
I just had one of those moments (well actually you will need to sit down and hold the scroll key because as it turns out it was quite a long moment). I watched Dirty Dancing (again) last night and Patrick Swayze is of course no longer with us.
Today I watched the Jackson 5 Story which partly centres around Michael Jackson, another talent seemingly gone too soon. (Ironically, I had a copy of the poster on the right with Michael on my bedroom wall when I was growing up!)
Part of my family abroad just had a funeral so another very young life cut short.
Going through some movies earlier and I came across the Fast & Furious, which was traditionally my birthday treat. Pictures of Paul Walker, many courtesy of Vin Diesel still pop up on my screen, and today, the life of one of my favorite real life drivers, Michael R. Schumacher hangs in the balance.
I am grateful to those with big world impacting talents who have done what was necessary to harness those talents and bring their gifts to the table. We of course all have talents, but not all of us have the dedication and discipline to take it to the extraordinary, or have us be in that place where the groundwork, and as Oprah Winfrey puts it, has us standing in that place where preparation, work and talent meets opportunity.
And just to add to the pot, the 18th/19th December (it’s a time zone thing) marks another anniversary of my dad’s passing.
“What are you waiting for?”
So as we head into another year I think I am just being reminded to darn well get on and live it. We, the ‘Royal we’ wait for so many things. We wait for the right time. We wait for the right people. We wait for the right conditions. We wait for the right circumstances. We wait for all of our plans to be in place. We wait for so many reasons, some real, some imaginary.
“What do you want your Living Legacy to be?”
Someone, well Kirit Pankhania to be precise, recently asked me to write my own eulogy. I did it, however I called it a Living Legacy because eulogy seemed a bit like tempting fate AND I really do want to be around to see the impact of my life! It’s an interesting exercise nonetheless.
I write this not from a place of ‘oh woe is me and death is awful‘ but more from a place of life is precious and isn’t it wonderful that people who can give so many others pleasure have walked this earth. Many of them bearing the brunt of criticism and opinions about their life from people who don’t know them from Adam. (Sorry Adam, no offence!)
I have no idea yet whether my impact will be as far reaching as some of those that I have mentioned above or if I’ll just be a legend in my own living room. What I do know for sure however is that if I keep on playing a small game and waiting, no one will really miss me or notice when I’m gone, and my impact on this earth would have been minimal to say the least.
So I endeavour to leave my mark on the landscape and make a good impact so that I know that my time on this planet hasn’t been wasted.
And on that cheery note I need to go and forage for food because it seems as though, despite my requests and encouragement, that the Cooking Fairy still hasn’t figured out how to get to this address!
