Pet Peeve of the Day & Question for Anyone Who Works in a Bakery

I have baked my own bread for years. Mostly wholemeal. You can’t slice a freshly baked bread. It has to rest for at least half an hour if not an hour before slicing. If you slice it immediately the inside will kind of crumble and the crumbs roll up. (Hard to put into words.)
Anyway. I always made sure the bread would be ready when I got up, take it out of the tin, walk the dogs, come back, have breakfast.
Don’t be tempted by the wonderful smell. It doesn’t even taste nice fresh from the oven.
Anneke van Genderen Exactly!!! I think my eyebrow did an involuntary raise when he started talking 😀 And that sounds yummy and delicious! 😛
Sonny Olmo That’s the one and exactly what I didn’t want this morning LOOOOOOL 😀
Haha! I’m the same! I like to cut big slabs off myself, too!! Hate them sliced – they slice it too thinly! Delia Smith does a super fast and easy and delicious bread recipe though! I’m gonna start making my own again! Will send you the recip xx
Evangelina Tsa Yep. Me and the supermarkets have a very different idea of what constitutes thick slices!
My idea of a thick slice is like about quarter of the loaf!
Mine too. A bread pillow to sink your teeth into!
Marilyn Devonish bread 🍞 is SO lush. It’s totally my Achille’s heel. Every week now I get the freshly baked organic wholemeal from Sainsburys, it’s one of the few that has ‘clean’ ingredients (I asked to see the nutritional info from their folder). I love it with two while organic poached and runny eggs on top, or with lashings if peanut butter and a sprinkling of cinnamon. Blueberry jam is also amazing. It’s my regular bedtime snack/treat!
