Barbara Walters on Biggest Regrets in Life

If I’m not out running a Workshop, Sunday is my Oprah day.  Here in the UK we have an Oprah-Fest-Love In with 3 hours back to back from 7am – 10am.  Oprah Behind the Scenes, the Oprah Master Class Series, and then rounding out the trilogy with Super Soul Sunday.

This morning I was up at 3.30am composing the daily Magic & Gratitude Practice e-mail that goes out to everyone taking part on my  Magic & Gratitude Programme.  The central practice for the first 28-days, and beyond if people chose to, is to keep a daily Gratitude Journal.  Every day the magic participants spend a few minutes writing a set number of things that they are grateful for, phrasing it in a particular way.  It is powerful stuff, and I have witnessed over the years the real power of speaking and writing things into existence, as my client’s dreams and wishes have gone on to take form in the material world and come true.

The Behind the Scenes episode today was where Oprah re-created The View on her show, even bringing in the original table that the Women of The View used in their first show, 14 years prior.

After the show Oprah invited everyone back to her office for champagne and a catch up.  Because she had written about both Barbara Walters and Whoopi Goldberg in her journals over the years Oprah had photocopies of the relevant pages and read sections to them.

Oprah also wrote about how Barbara Walters changed the course of her entire life that day at the infamous Beauty Pageant, citing that as the reason that she won the contest.

Barbara Walters asked Oprah: “So you’ve always kept a diary?”

Oprah explained that keeping a daily journal has been one of the constants in her life, dating right back to her 20’s years (where she admitted it was usually all about boys and: “Is he gonna call me?  Oh why didn’t he call?!!!”)

Barbara then said: I never did, and it is one of the biggest regrets of my life.”

Oprah then asked Barbara how she managed to write her book without one: “In order to write my book I had to go back through old scripts.  I remembered lots from childhood but with some of the people that I’ve met and worked with . . . .”

Someone in the room then interjected and suggested that Barbara start now.  She said it was too late.  I guess what she meant by that was that she knew what hadn’t yet been announced to the world, that she would be retiring from The View.

“It has been the single most important thing in my life.”  Oprah Winfrey

I have previously written about Oprah’s view about the power of keeping a daily journal and the difference that it has made in her life as she sat down with Debbie Ford just before her passing.  You can read that Blog post here.  Oprah says that she believes that keeping a Gratitude Journal is the single most important thing that she has done in her life.

You can also see Oprah in her own words talking about the Importance of her Gratitude Journal here.

Wow, I’m gonna have to go back and share this video with all of the Lifetime Members of my Magic & Gratitude Programme because it is indeed powerful stuff and in the busyness of the world it is so easy to overlook or forget the power of a simple practice.

For those that aren’t into diary’s and journal’s but have an import life message to share, this tip might help:

If you were to stop for a moment and consider:

  1. What is the biggest regret of your life to date?
  2. What can do from here on in to change or fulfil that?
  3. What one action, no matter how small can you take to get the ball rolling?
  4. If that dream, hope, plan, or vision is no longer valid, what needs to happen in order for you to be able to move on and let go now?
  5. What might you regret if you allow things to stay the same and take no action?

You can change your perception of the past

We all know that you can’t go back and change the past.  You can however change what you do in the here and now and therefore impact the trajectory of the future.

Of course in my therapy practice I use Time Line Therapy, Past Life Regression, Access Consciousness, Huna Ho’oponopono, Hypnosis, and a host of other modalities to change the connection to the past and the way it shows up in your life.

The even itself will always be.  What changes however is  your perception of it and the impact that it has on your thoughts, feelings, and emotions.

Right, back to share some further gems with my Magic & Gratitude Group, and help the uncover more of life’s daily and constant wonderful synchronicities!
